The INTECMAR (Technological Institute for the Control of the Marine Environment of Galicia) has extensive experience in the study of the coastal environment and its resources, as well as in the fight against marine pollution. The INTECMAR is the official instrument of the autonomous administration of Galicia for the quality control of the marine environment, as well as for the implementation of the legal dispositions regarding the technical-health inspection of sea products. Its chemical contamination department has a vast experience in the monitoring of priority organic contaminants, such as polychlorinated biphenyls, polychlorinated dibenzo dioxins and furans, organochlorinated pesticides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. It has also focused on the development and application of new techniques for the analysis of these compounds in samples of marine origin. In the last decade, emerging pollutants have been its main field of study.
