The CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research) is an R&D center dedicated to develop excellent research, promote technological development and support public policies in the area of Marine Sciences. The center hosts over 400 researchers (approximately 200 with doctoral degrees) and promotes a multi and interdisciplinary approach to social and economic challenges with relevance in the regional, national and global context.

The CIIMAR has competences and relevant experience in the implementation of R&D&I projects, promotion and transfer of technology, and training in multiple sectors of the economic activity linked to the sea. It stands out in different R&D areas related to global changes, ecosystem services and management, biotechnology, aquaculture and enhancement of differentiating endogenous resources, particularly of those associated with the Sea Economy.

The CIIMAR has been strongly involved in the implementation of public policies related to the management of water bodies, where the WFD (Water Framework Directive) and the MSFD (Marine Strategy Framework Directive) stand out. In addition, and within the scope of its competences, it focuses on the problems of emerging pollutants from various perspectives, such as the development of ecotoxicological tools or ecological modeling and bioremediation, among others. Within the CIIMAR, the Research Group on Endocrine Disruptors and Emerging Pollutants is in charge of coordinating the NOR-WATER project.
