CMVNC – Aquamuseu

The Câmara Municipal de Vila Nova de Cerveira (Town Council of Vila Nova de Cerveira), also known as CMVNC, integrates the traditional public administrative sector of the state at the local level. It also develops its action under the terms laid down in the Lei dos Conselhos Locais (Local Councils Act). The Aquamuseu do Rio Minho (Minho River Aquamuseum) is a municipal project that has been active for 10 years. This museum plays an important role in promoting knowledge and dissemination of the natural heritage associated with the Minho river hydrographic basin. To that aim, it organizes guided tours to the permanent exhibition which includes the Aquário do rio (River Aquarium) and the Museu da Pesca (Fishing Museum). The scientific knowledge is transmitted to different groups, such as school children, fishermen and general public, through the educational activities and exhibitions that are organized. 

The CMVNC, through the Aquamuseu do Rio Minho, deals with the natural and ethnographic heritage associated to artisanal fishing in the Minho river to more than 25 thousand people a year. It develops an intense activity with the fishermen of the Minho river, as well as with school groups from Portugal and Galicia, through the implementation of educational activities (laboratory and field). All these activities have a clear focus on raising awareness and providing training in the exploration of water resources. The participation of the CMVNC through the Aquamuseu do Rio Minho in the NOR-WATER project will make it possible to intensify and diversify the forms of communication regarding the impact of emerging pollutants on the Minho river. It will also help raise awareness about the need to improve the quality of the river habitat among the different groups visiting the Aquamuseu.
